"The Art of Impermanence"
Avelina Kyoto occupies a collection of historic machiya townhouses in the Higashiyama district, Kyoto's most beautifully preserved historic quarter. Fourteen tatami suites open onto private karesansui rock gardens, each designed by a master garden architect in the tradition of the great Zen temples. The resort's tea master conducts private chado ceremonies each morning, and the kaiseki restaurant — awarded three Michelin stars — serves a twelve-course menu that changes with each of Japan's seventy-two micro-seasons. Guests are accompanied by a dedicated cultural concierge who arranges private access to temples and tea houses that are closed to the general public, as well as private lessons in ikebana, calligraphy, and the art of kintsugi.
